WORKING STUDENT PROGRAM

The Working Student Program provides dedicated riders the opportunity to earn credits toward lessons, show bills (hauling, coaching), and other equine activities in exchange for assistance with barn duties. This program is designed to support developing horsemen and horsewomen who are reliable and committed members of our barn family.

Eligibility:​

  • Must be 14 years or older to participate as a working student.

  • Must be currently enrolled in a minimum of one paid lesson per week to qualify for the working student program.

  • Must maintain a positive and professional attitude while representing the barn.

  • Limited number of working student positions available based on barn needs and scheduling capacity.

Responsibilities and Expectations:​

  • Minimum Monthly Hours: 8–10 hours per month (approximately 2 hours per week).

  • Feeding Shift Duration: Each shift is up to 2 hours.

  • Performance: Maintain consistent communication, arrive on time, and complete assigned duties thoroughly.

  • Reliability: If unable to complete a scheduled shift, notify as soon as possible and assist with finding coverage.

  • Notice Policy: 30-day written notice required prior to leaving the program, to allow time for scheduling and replacement coordination.

Earning Structure:​

  • Feeding shift (up to 2 hours) = $40 credit

  • Miscellaneous barn hours (stall work, tack cleaning, assisting with camp, etc) = $20 credit /hour

    • Additional hours must be pre-approved to balance barn operations and fairness among participants. 

  • Credit Conversion:

    • 2 feeding shifts = 1 private lesson​

    • 1.5 feeding shifts = 1 semi-private/group lesson (to be rounded at instructor’s discretion)

  • Credits may be applied towards:

    • Additional lessons (beyond the paid weekly lesson)

    • Hauling fees (off-property rides or shows)

    • Leasing a horse

    • Home show/clinic fees

  • Credit Use Policy:

    • Credits must be used within the following month after being earned (one cycle rollover allowed). Unused credits after that period will expire.​

Advancement Opportunities:​

  • Working Student (Base Role):

    • Completes barn duties such as feeding, turnout, stall checks, and cleanup tasks.

    • May earn credits toward lessons and services.

  • Junior Assistant ("Assistant Trainer”):

    • Must be 16+, an active working student, and demonstrate responsibility and teaching ability.

    • May assist with or teaches Tiny Tot Lessons under supervision.
